What Is A Dynamometer?

What Is A Dynamometer?

Unless you are in the industries which use and build dynamometers it is highly unlikely you will have heard off them.

Well this small articles will hopefully help you understand what they are and what a dynamometer does. So the next time some one brings them up in conversation (a boring conversation) at least you will have a vague idea what they are jabbering on about.

Charles Babbage, often referred to as the "Father of Computing," created the first dynamometers in the late 19th century.

The reason you will not have heard of a dynamometer is that they are highly specialised pieces of machinery used to measure an engines revolution per minute (RPM) and torque.

Basically it is measuring to see how powerful the engine is, so the more revolutions or turns the crankshaft makes each minute the more powerful the engines is.

Dynamometers are used is a huge array of different industries such as marine engineering to car manufacturing, in fact any industry at all that involves engines.

Why is the revolutions per minute (RPM) and torque important? Well in order to make engines run smoothly and efficiently the RPM must be within a specific range depending on what the engine is designed to do.

Charles Babbage original dynamometer developed into two different types of dynamometer the chassis dynamometer and the engine dynamometer.

The engine dynamometer is basically attached directly to the engine to measure the engines performance. Where as the vehicles tyres are placed on the chassis dynamometer to measure the cars performance in particular horse power.

Both types of dynamometers absorb power from a running engine and measure the torque required to absorb that power. Many dynamometers today are hooked up to computers, which can graph the engine's capabilities and output making it much easier to visualise and find the optimum range.

Whey Isolate Benefits

whey protein isolate has become very popular with gym goers and athletes at the moment and you can't enter a gym without someone sipping away on whey protein shakes.
Anyone who has growth spurts such as adolescents, children and pregnant ladies protein is very important . Their bodies are not just maintaining they are producing and growing rapidly.
This is also the case for athletes or anyone who wants to physically alter their bodies through a rigorous exercise program.
It is not possible for you to build muscle without a positive protein balance. This basically means your production of protein must be greater than the destruction of muscle cells caused by your workout.
So to keep their bodies fuel with protein to aid the process of muscle growth and repair from all the constant tearing and repairing skeletal muscle cells, they are taking whey protein shakes. This is a quick and easy form of nutrients. Much simpler than making sure what you're eating is pact full of protein building nutrients and also minus the gram's of fat found in many good protein sources such as peanut butter.
Below are a very brief summary of the benefits of whey protein.
  • Builds muscle
  • Encourages Fat Loss
  • Reduces Muscle Depletion
  • Encourages Bone growth
  • Repairs muscle
  • Improves exercise capacity
  • Strengthens the Immune system

The most important fact to remember is that these whey protein shakes and bars are not a short cut for hard work and healthy living. If you want results stick to your regular work out routines and cut out the junk food, you will see results sooner than you think!

When is the best time to train?

This is a very common question, however it is not a simple answer of morning between 9am and 11am for example. Every one of is an individual and unique so therefore everyone's bodies react differently at different time.
From scientific research has shown that the human body's hormone levels peak in the late afternoon into early evening around 4pm - 7pm. This would make the muscles in your body respond much better, to any form of exercise, so therefore it's better to workout between 4pm – 7pm.

However we all know with our busy schedules this is more often than not impossible to stick to these time.
What happens if you can only train in the morning? Will you be able to still make sufficient gains in your weight training or improve your fitness with cardio training? Of course you will so long as you are keeping to your routine and feeding your body the right nutrients.

One of the most popular times of day to exercise is approximately 5pm. This is due to a couple of factors.
Firstly research has shown it's the time when people feel most energised. The vast majority of us are simply not very good at getting up in the mornings and it's never fun pumping iron when you are half a sleep.
Secondly working out at approximately 5pm fits into the majority of our schedules so we are not rushing or cutting your routine short. Or like a lot of us we just give the gym a miss as we have to work etc.

With our busy schedules and relentless life styles the most important thing is that we make sure we workout, not necessarily what time we workout. If you can only fit your session in the morning before work, then exercise in the morning. The same applies with the afternoon and evenings. The crucial point is that we are routinely training and exercising at a high intensity level if we are serious about making improvements in both our physique and athletic stamina.

Whatever time our schedules or body decides on it does not matter whether it's 4am or 4pm. It's important that we consume whey protein or protein shakes before and after training. Your post work out protein shake will deliver all of the important nutrients to the muscles that have just been exhausted and broken down minutes earlier during your workout. A post workout shake containing a two to one carbohydrate to protein ratio no later than 40 minutes after exercise is key.

So when' the best time to workout? Simple, any time when you can regularly commit to performing an intense and varied workout. Find what time suits your body and schedule and keep to it.
