Mobility Scooter Insurance
Recently there has been a few high profile incidents involving mobility scooters although some maybe quite hilarious the actual seriousness can be easily over looked.
The vast majority of mobility scooter owners do not have any form of insurance for them self or the mobility scooter.
Considering that many owners use their mobility scooters in the public arena it would seem very prudent make sure you and your mobility scooter are insured just in case you did cause damage to property or pedestrians, after all accidents happen!
However many mobility scooter owners are reluctant to pay for mobility scooter insurance as currently there is no legal obligation to have insurance unlike a car or motorcycle owner.
However it would be wise for mobility scooter owners to consider taking out at least third party insurance to cover any potential claims that could be made should the user cause injury of damage to persons or property when out in the public.
Careful consideration should also be given to taking our adequate insurance to cover the mobility scooter itself against damage, theft etc. Mobility scooters care very expensive to purchase and the peace of mind and financial benefits to being insured can be a sensible and worthwhile investment.
Despite it not being a legal requirement to use a mobility scooter the Driver And Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has made the following statement:
"Although it is not a legal requirement, it is strongly advised to have insurance. Suitable schemes are not too expensive and are available to cover your personal safety, other people’s safety and the value of the vehicle."
As with any insurance be it car, home or motorcycle it is always very prudent to shop around and do your research to find the best insurers not only on price but customer service and reliability.

- Age.
- Value of mobility scooter.
- Serial or frame number of mobility scooter.
